I graduated from the University of Otago, New Zealand in 2001 and have been a GP since 2005. Over time I developed professional interests in multiple areas, including skin cancer detection, psychological wellbeing, chronic pain and unexplained somatic symptoms.
An expanding focus is psychotherapy; this started with patients’ frustration in accessing effective therapy. Overtime I expanded modalities offered as the state of the art evolved. Currently the most recommended is IFS-informed EMDR, a hybrid of Internal Family Systems and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing. Other synergistic techniques include Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) and clinical hypnosis (deep relaxation).
As a DAME for CASA, I perform aviation medicals as well as consult with pilots on medical clearance issues.
